Deacons now Norton Rose

As most of you are probably aware, on 1 January 2010 Deacons Australia joined the international Norton Rose Group and are now known as Norton Rose Australia.

The new Norton Rose Group will have a turnover of more than AUD864m and in excess of 1800 lawyers, based in 30 offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. In the Asia Pacific region, the Group has more than 700 fee earners operating from 13 offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Brisbane, Canberra, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Melbourne, Perth, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Two of our QYL committee members, Stephen Mackie and Danielle Keyes are now part of this global legal giant. Some suggest that Steve's boyish good looks and Danielle's litigious prowess were among the factors that encouraged the merger. This editor is dubious however.

The good news is that the long history of support for QYL from Deacons (in the form of event & meeting venues, catering, sponsorship, strong membership, newsletter technical articles and the precious time of their employees) has continued under the new Norton Rose banner. QYL genuinely appreciates the ongoing support.
